Kitchen Design Ideas 2011 Pictures " HGTV Dream Home 2011 "

With a color palette inspired by the bark of the birch tree, the kitchen serves as both entertainment and gathering space.

A nearly 13-foot-long island, topped with white quartz, features three cabinets of storage shelves cloaked behind frosted glass.

Maple cabinetry in a charcoal finish counterbalances maple prefinished hardwood flooring.

Carrera marble tile in a stacked pattern mimics the look of birch bark. "Sometimes I think that's what inspiration is," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "It doesn't have to be in your face. It doesn't mean you stencil a tree on the wall. But it's there."

"I love the kitchen. I think it's dramatic. It works," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "There are two dishwashers. I love that refrigerator. I love the look of it. I love the functionality of it. I love everything about it."

An oversized, undermount farmhouse sink, flanked by Asko dishwashers, accommodates even the largest gatherings.

To maximize mountain views from the kitchen, dining room furnishings are kept to a minimum.

Wolf 30-inch undercounter warming and microwave drawers offer the ultimate in convenience when cooking for a crowd.

The kitchen is designed, as all spaces in the home, to handle wear and tear. "The kitchen is truly suited to the lifestyle of where it's situated. And that’s significant," says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

Master Bathroom Pictures 2011 " HGTV Dream Home 2011 "

The centerpiece of the bathroom's design, a vintage tub discovered at a local architectural salvage center is updated with a coat of paint and a hemlock cradle.

Adding understated ambiance, pewter-trimmed glass votive holders line the ledge above the tub.

Carpenter David Brown handcrafted the custom birch-framed mirror for the space. Lighting fixtures that peek through the glass complete the clean, uncluttered look.

Charcoal quartz countertop accommodates two sinks topped with modern chrome faucets. A bouquet of white hydrangeas and white countertop accessories extend the neutral canvas.

The vanity comes equipped with a warming drawer for towels and lotions.

The home's most dramatic view can be enjoyed as one peers through the master bathroom's 5-foot-wide by 12-foot-tall column of glass.

Guest Bedroom Pictures 2011 " HGTV Dream Home 2011 "

The guest suite, located on HGTV Dream Home's lower level, is inspired by boutique hotel room design.

Touches of metallics brighten the space, which features dark walls and limited natural light.

"If you look outside at the stone around the fire pit," says interior designer Linda Woodrum, "you'll notice that the colors in that stone foundation are replicated in the bedroom colors."

Synthetic, easy-care upholstery fabrics mimic the look of luxurious wool and mohair.

Steel floor lamps in a polished-nickel finish add an industrial edge to the guest space.

A glass urn holds a bouquet of white snowball lilacs and hydrangea, a pleasant reminder of springtime during the coldest winter months.

Pendant lights with drum shades flank the queen-size bed. Chrome and glass side tables topped with greenery and black-and-white photography lend an urban design sensibility.

A design vignette at the entrance to the guest bedroom hints at the room's color palette and design scheme. Glicees on paper by artist Charles Sabec capture one's attention.

Italian linens and contemporary furnishings, including a platform bed crafted from Appalachian hardwoods, elevate the guest room design.

Window curtains Pictures and Tips

Many people consider window treatments as finishing touches to the rooms decor, and usually pay little or no attention to this interior detail. However, window treatments should never be neglected, as they play an important part in emphasizing the individual character of the place. Window curtains truly stand out in any well decorated room. They add that extra pinch of style and panache to a house. Apart from that, buying a custom made (custom tailored) curtain can have various other uses like:
  • hanging a translucent curtain over a window to frame a view
  • a curtain can easily make a lovely doorway to separate eating, dining or entertainment rooms. It enhances privacy while maintaining décor
  • long curtains can often give a false impression of a higher ceiling, making the room look larger and more elegant
  • hanging a curtain around an art piece would give the whole room a princely touch.

2013 HGTV Smart Home : Front Yard Pictures

About the Front Yard:
Drawing from the design of Jacksonville Beach's original shingle style vacation homes, HGTV Smart Home 2013 is nestled into the landscape, with a wide front porch that invites relaxation while providing shade from the intense Florida sun. In keeping with shingle style design, a light tower in the front façade mimics the look of a cupola or widow's walk and a detached garage with cupola replicates the look of a boathouse.

A wide front porch, topped with a 24 gauge standing seam roof, invites relaxation and conversation with neighbors. Pine straw covered beds planted with Asiatic jasmine greet guests along the front fence.

Classic yacht club style rocking chairs, fashioned from durable composite material, carve out a cozy reading and conversation area.

An oxidized iron clad wood table is set for a midday snack. Blown-glass tableware, pottery and linens hint at the interior color palette.

Coquina style exterior cladding, which references the construction of the earliest homes in St. Augustine, lends visual interest and tells a story of the First Coast and its architectural history.

Planted between the picket fence and the front porch to draw attention, needle palm will grow to a height of 4-1/2 feet and provide needed massing in the landscape.

Maintenance free Asiatic jasmine replaces sod in the front yard. "We're taking that line between the structure and the natural environment and softening it so it feels like there is not a firm and precise break line," says landscape architect Jeremy Marquis.

A driveway clad in permeable pavers leads to a boathouse style garage and the home's family entrance, where an outdoor shower provides a space to rinse off and refresh before entering the home.

A planter strip of dwarf Mondo grass stabilizes the surrounding soil and minimizes the amount of pavers used in the driveway area.

2013 HGTV Smart Home : Dining Room Pictures

About the Dining Room:
Open to the kitchen, great room and back deck, the dining area transforms to a cozy cocoon when linen drapes are drawn. Formal furnishings in a dark finish elevate the design, while a graphic print area rug grounds the space and lends a contemporary element. "Most of us have lost our dining rooms, which is fine, but sometimes you want that formal, intimate space," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "That's what the drapes do: All that wonderful fabric creates the feel of an intimate party without losing that open living concept."

The area rug's bold graphic print, in a dark espresso color, grounds the space and lends a contemporary aesthetic that counters the room's formal furnishings and dramatic Empire style light fixture, fashioned from wrought iron and washed wood.

A concave dining chest, neoclassically inspired, served as a springboard for the room design. Interior halogen bulbs shine a spotlight on porcelain dinnerware and resin-cast white ribbon coral.

Clear glass taper holders, in chess piece style shapes, lend drama while keeping views unobstructed.

Seating up to eight guests, the trestle style dining table carves out a formal dining space. Dining chairs, upholstered in a celadon-hued fabric, echo the home's subtle beach theme.

The open concept dining area flows seamlessly into the kitchen. Clear glass subway tile, which clads the kitchen backsplash, sparkles gem-like in the distance.

"It almost feels like a cabana out on the beach," says Linda of the dining area. "It's so uniquely special and it's very applicable to people's own lives  having the ability to shut the kitchen off even if you're draping just one wall."
